In the WRIT PETITION (CIVIL) NO. 295 OF 2012, under Article 32 of the Constitution Dr. S. Rajaseekaran, an orthopaedic surgeon, a public spirited citizen and President of the Indian Orthopaedic Association has, inter alia, prayed for enforcement of road safety norms and appropriate treatment of accident victims.

Court passed an order on 22nd April, 2014 constituting a Committee on Road Safety under the Chairmanship of Justice K. S. Radhakrishnan, a former judge of this Court.

The Committee was notified by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) of the Government of India on 30th May, 2014.

And Under the direction of Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety with Gazette Notification No- Pari.vi. (Sa. Su)/04/2016/433 Dated: 26 March 2017 formation of Lead Agency, Road Safety, Department of Transport, Government of Jharkhand was done.

The Lead Agency for road safety in Jharkhand, under the Department of Transport, Government of Jharkhand, plays a pivotal role in formulating and implementing strategies to enhance road safety across the state.

Tasked with coordinating efforts to reduce accidents and improve traffic management, the agency collaborates with various stakeholders to ensure the effective enforcement of traffic rules and regulations.

By focusing on public awareness campaigns, infrastructure development, and policy initiatives, the Lead Agency endeavours to create safer road environments for the citizens of Jharkhand.
