  • Literacy Program
    • No. of illiterate prisoner – 4670
      • Male – 4270
      • Female – 400
    • All admitted to literacy centres opened inside jails as per norms of Total Literacy Campaign.
    • Environment building through Kala Jatha
    • State Literacy Mission authority and District Literacy Society conduct and monitor the program along with jail authority.
    • Target to make all literate by July 2008 and then run one centre for new entry
  • Elementary Education through SSA
    • Examination for class I to VIII conducted in all jails
    • Total no. of prisoners appeared- 1439
    • Textbooks distributed to all those appeared in exam.
    • Educated prisoner being trained as teacher
    • Early Childhood Education (ECE) centre for children below six years.
  • Secondary and Higher education Program
    • NIOS centre in five jails running
    • NIOS approached and favorably responded to open centres in all jails by July 2008.
    • Professional and Higher education through IGNOU
  • ICDS Program (Creche)
  • Nearest Anganwadi Centre tagged to take care children in jails for
    • Immunization
    • Nutrition and its monitoring (Growth Chart)
    • Nutrition education to pregnant and Lactating mothers
    • Pre school education (play school)
    • Smooth transition from play school to Residential Welfare School, if needed
  • Monitoring jointly by ICDS department and Jail administration (through video-conferencing)
  • Women Development Program
    • Awareness program on Dowry and Witchcraft through Social Welfare deptt.
    • Vocational training linked to production through Mahila Samakhya and NGOs
  • Meditational Activities
    • Yoga, Art of Living etc.
    • MOU being signed with NGO for three years for regularity.
