Jharnet - an overview
Govt. of Jharkhand has conceived the Jharkhand State Wide Area Netwok (JHARNET)
to push forward in the Information Technology in the Government to promote the speed
and ease of governance.It is a Information Superhighway for Jharkhand which carry
Multi Services-Data,Voice and Video.The Contact for building the Jharnet has been
awarded to United Telecoms Ltd. on BOOT (Build-Own-Operate-Transfer) revenue Model.
All Government communication and IT infrastructures would be linked to Jharnet.The
Connection will be from State Headquarters up to Block Level through District and
Sub-divisions.The key applications envisaged on the network are Video Conerencing,Voice
and Data Communications,Intarnet Operation,Electronic Data Interchange(EDI) services,Value
Added Networks,Help Desk for JHARNET usres,Information Kiosks, Data Warehousing
and Unified Messaging Servies (UMS) etc.
Jharnet - the features
Jharnet is the State Information and Communication network
and also the Data Super Highway for the State of Jharkhand.It is one of the
largest e-Governance networks in South East Asia.It is has the distinction of being
the first fully IP based State Wide Area Networking(SWAN) in India which has become
operational as the first DOIT SWAN project.

Voice (IP Telephony)
A uniform and Secured IP telophy system covering entire state which will reduce
greate expenditure on Telephone bills.It is a very handy intercom system across
the state. |
Video Conferencing
Will listen the movement of Govt officials for the meetings to great extent
and thus saving Govt. expenditure and time.It will allow to conduct regular departmental
meetings to review the progress of schemes,works etc.Coferences Can be held with
dignitaries from any part of the world (on IP and ISDN). Video on mobile VSAT highlights
the remote happenings and is a highly useful tool for State Govt Machinery during
natural calamities and emergencies in disaster recovery operations.
